Zambia ratified the FCTC in 2008. Current tobacco control efforts are focused on meeting the obligations to the FCTC through revising the existing tobacco control legislation. Zambia was part of the ATSA Initiative funded by IDRC and the BMGF, and despite challenges (tobacco industry presence and resource constraints), Zambia has an active anti-tobacco advocacy community, as well as experienced researchers who are engaged in tobacco control.
