The ITC France Project was launched in 2006 to create a system for surveillance and evaluation of tobacco control initiatives in France, including the two-phase ban on smoking in work and public places: 1) February 2007-all companies, public administration, educational and health care facilities; and 2) January 2008-all other public places: cafés, hotels, restaurants, discotheques, and casinos. The ITC France Survey is a telephone survey of a nationally representative survey of 1,735 smokers and 525 adult non-smokers. The Wave 1 Survey was carried out from December 2006 to February 2007. Wave 2 was conducted from September to December 2008 and Wave 3 is planned for March 2010. France ratified the FCTC on October 2004.
