• An estimated 200,000 Brazilians a year die from tobacco-related illness
• Tobacco usage costs the Sistema Único de Saúde - SUS (Brazilian National Public Health System) an estimated R$ 338 million

Smoking Policies:

• Brazil ratified the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on November 3, 2005
• There are no restrictions on smoking in public places
• Product warning labels must cover 50% of the package
