ITC Project

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates ratified the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) on November 7, 2005.

The Abu Dhabi Cohort Study (ADCS) is led by the New York University (NYU) Investigator Team. The tobacco-related component of the ADCS assessments at Wave 1 is being developed in partnership by the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (ITC) and the New York University in Abu Dhabi (NYU-AD) Investigator Team.

About 20,000 Emirati nationals will be recruited from 5 clinic sites over 3 years to participate in the ADCS.  All newly recruited individuals who provide written consent to participate in the ADCS will be asked to complete a 20-minute self-administered Baseline Questionnaire via tablet at the clinic during the baseline assessment visit. The Baseline Questionnaire will include the first part of the Tobacco Use Module (ITC AE1-R). All tobacco users and a sub-sample of non-users who complete the ITC AE1-R Tobacco Use Module will be sent a link to complete the second part of the Tobacco Use Module (ITC AE1-P Survey).
